Zinc-plated steel fittings are stronger and more durable than other metal fittings. They have fair corrosion resistance, so they should be used primarily in dry environments. Brass fittings are softer than other metal fittings, so they’re easier to thread together. They have good corrosion resistance. Bronze fittings have better corrosion resistance and are stronger than brass and aluminum fittings. Aluminum fittings are lighter in weight than other metal fittings. Male NPSM threads are compatible with female NPSH threads. NPSH (National Pipe Straight Hose) female threads are compatible with male NPT, NPTF, and NPSM threads. Metric and UN/UNF (SAE) male threads with gasket protect against leaks.
