Zinc-plated steel fittings are stronger and more durable than other metal fittings. They have fair corrosion resistance, so they should be used primarily in dry environments. Brass fittings are softer than other metal fittings, so they’re easier to thread together. They have good corrosion resistance. Bronze fittings have better corrosion resistance and are stronger than brass and aluminum fittings. Aluminum fittings are lighter in weight than other metal fittings. They have good corrosion resistance. 304 stainless steel fittings have very good corrosion resistance, so they’re the best choice for high-humidity environments.

 Fittings that swivel until tightened rotate 360° for easy installation. Fittings with intermittent swivel have a barbed end that rotates 360° and pivots 10° in all directions to prevent kinking between hose and portable tools.

 Fittings with a threaded end are also known as hose nipples.

 Fittings with a 45° flared end are also known as refrigeration and SAE fittings.

 NPTF (Dryseal) threads are compatible with NPT threads. Female NPSM (National Pipe Straight Mechanical) threads are compatible with male NPT and NPTF threads. Male NPSM threads are compatible with female NPSH threads. NPSH (National Pipe Straight Hose) female threads are compatible with male NPT, NPTF, and NPSM threads. Metric and UN/UNF (SAE) male threads with gasket protect against leaks.
